just say for example i used the name john smith when creating the account jsmith@hotmail.com, is there any way i can change the name i used (john smith) to another name for example (john jones)?

Yes, there is. Log onto Hotmail and access your profile information. You'll reach a point that says "Windows Live Account profile." It'll list the personal information that you used to register the account. Beneath all of that, there should be an option that says something along the lines of "Edit these settings." Click it, and it'll take you to what you're looking to do.
