Strangers keep adding me to their MSN hotmail account, why?

I only log into my account every once a week or so and every time I do, I find loads of people have added me! How/why are they doing this? I’m pretty sure my email address isn’t plastered all over the net for people to randomly add me.

I wouldn’t mind so much, but half of them seem to be kids. I’m thirty and at work I suddenly fourteen year olds claiming “I added them!”

Is this some sort of virus that automatically adds random people?
Strangers keep adding me to their MSN hotmail account, why?
Some people just randomly add names and guess and others add them from emails forwarded or anything. My neices have competitions to see who has the most people on a list and gave my details out to all their friends to get names in return. There is a privacy option under tools, options, then privacy, put a tick in "only people on my allow list can see my status and send me messages" you can also take the tick out of "alert me when other people add me to their contact list" then people will not be able to see your online status unless you personally add them and it will also stop the annoying pop ups asking you to add.
Reply:I would change my e-mail address if I was you, hope things come right for you.
Reply:Sounds a bit strange. Maybe someone you know is giving people your email address or someone else has access to your email account. You can block them. But I think it would be best for you to change your email address and start fresh.
Reply:I had this problem. I think its because you havent got it configured properly.
Reply:no it happens through searchs make sure your profile is set to private, thats why i prefer yahoo as it asks if you want them to be added
Reply:i think they like you
Reply:You can complain to MSN but I don't think it will help you I would stop using MSN Messenger, and use Yahoo Messenger instead
Reply:You may have applied and given your email address to a legimate co.

Somehow the end up on some co gathering email addresses and create Database and sell.
